Mission Accomplished. It’s hard to describe overcoming all the personal challenges to achieve this. Truth be told I’m not the most comfortable in deep water and there is something about being in the deep ocean that is phobia inducing. However, putting in the hard work and facing your fears, head on, does pay off. I learned a lot about myself and more about what I can accomplish if I set my mind to it. I have a new hobby I hope to continue to pursue. Every dive is an experience in itself. Stay tuned.

Day 4 was the last day of Scuba Class. We went to dive at Redondo Beach. The water felt colder and visibility was lower in the water. Waves and current was definitely stronger. We saw more fish, starfish, and sand dollars. We got to swim with sea lions! They were out near shore and as soon as they saw us swimming towards the float then came by to investigate us on the surface of the ocean. They are very loud lol. Once we were underwater at the bottom, the sea lions swam down to investigate what we were doing. They came to about 3 to 4ft in front of us. Looking into our masks/eyes. They were very playful and inquisitive. I was a bit nervous as I didn’t know if they would try to yank our respirators from our mouths. Unfortunately while exiting the beach an instructor of another class broke his shinbone when a wave caught him by surprise and threw him against the tank of a student diver. He was picked up by paramedics to receive medical care. The two classes were combined into one with the three remaining instructors and we were able to finish our certification. This was a reminder to all that while scuba can be fun and rewarding it is not without its risks and dangers. A valuable lesson indeed.

Day 3 of Scuba Class. The day before the Saturday beach dive we had to get fitted for wetsuits and to pick up our tanks and the rest of the gear. The first beach dive was at Laguna Beach. The walk from the parking spot to the actual beach was exhausting. I was tired AF even before we got to the beach. The water was cold but not as cold as I thought it was going to be. We did two dives. I got to see some fish and other various sea creatures. You can see how tired and cold I am in the after pictures. After this we had to go back to the dive shop to refill our tanks for the Sunday dive. Afterwards, we had to dry our gear as much as possible to avoid having to put on a cold wet wetsuit on the next morning.
